DNS query to unbound timeouts whenever one of multiple stub servers is down in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • We have multiple DNS caching servers running unbound version 1.6.1 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6.
  • Each unbound server have multiple stub servers configured for a stub zone.
domain-insecure: "example.com."

stub-zone:
  name: "example.com."
  stub-addr: 192.168.XXX.XXX
  stub-addr: 192.168.XXX.XXX
  stub-addr: 192.168.XXX.XXX
  • We noticed that whenever one of the stub servers shut down, we get a long delay of queries or a connection timeout from unbound.
  • It seems that the upstream unbound versions (1.7.0) does not have this problem.
