Why I am unable to log into the server using telnet?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- telnet
Issue
- Why am I unable to log into the server using telnet?
- Following error messages are seen in logs:
ttloop: peer died: EOF
Resolution
- To avoid such type of an issue, please either increase the telnet instances size or set it to
UNLIMITED. It can be done by editing the/etc/xinetd.conffile as below.
instances = UNLIMITED
- And then restart the xinetd service:
# service xinetd restart
Root Cause
- The error messages are indicating that system has reached the limit of telnet instances. Hence refusing the valid users to log in.
