Performance regression between RHEL 5.4 and 5.5

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Customer is experiencing poor performance with an application after upgrading from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.4 with the 2.6.18-164 kernel to RHEL 5.5 with the 2.6.18-194 kernel.
  • With kernel-2.6.18-164, the simulation completes with consistent times.
  • However, with kernel-2.6.18-194 and kernel-2.6.18-194.3.1 updates, the simulation is  inconsistent in the completion times and always takes more time than compared to the kernel-2.6.18-164 tests.
