How can I debug the JBossWeb / Tomcat Single Sign On (SSO) Valve ?

Issue

We are using tomcat 6 and are having issues with the single sign on valve. Previously we have debuged issues with the valve by setting its debug attribute to a value > 0. It seems this valve no longer has a debug attribute. Please provide details on how to enable debug output on the tomcat single sign on valve.
