When replacing a faulty drive in a software raid (md) device, mdadm fails to add device with "Cannot open /dev/sda1: Device or resource busy" in RHEL
Issue
- When I added a drive to replace a failed member of a software raid array,
mdadm
will not add it to the array:
# mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --add /dev/sda1
mdadm: Cannot open /dev/sda1: Device or resource busy
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4, 5, or 6
md
