Unable to import non UTF-8 strings to RHDS9

Issue

We're migrating from Sun DS to RHDS 9. We're trying to populate the new instance with the data from our current Sun DS LDAP, but we're hitting some problems due to some “strange” characters' codification. It seems that the don't pass some validation test when importing the data.

For example:

adding new entry "cn=...."
ldap_add: Invalid syntax (21)
additional info: description: value #0 invalid per syntax

If we decode this value and code it removing the conflicting characters, we can add the entry without problems. But we have to import huge number of entries.

Is there any way to make RHDS not validating this attribute (or force a conversion on the fly) while importing? If not, could you suggest us another solution so we can import the data?
