Intermittent samba ctdb share timeouts due to "RECLOCK latency" on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • High RECLOCK latency for ctdb re-lock file using gfs2 filesystem for shared storage.
    • This issue seems to cause intermittent smb timeouts with client sessions.
  • This is a CTDB setup and clients loose connectivity to samba shares with the following errors :
013/05/01 10:32:46.454123 [11077]: server/ctdb_recoverd.c:2632 check_reclock child process hung/timedout CFS slow to grant locks?
2013/05/01 10:32:46.454320 [11025]: High RECLOCK latency 15.002650s for operation recd reclock

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with the High Availability and Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • Red Hat High Availability cluster with 2 or more nodes.
  • Active/Active Samba configuration (CTDB)
    • Multiple clients connect to the same Samba shares
  • GFS2 file systems
    • Samba ctdb database is stored on one of the GFS2 filesystems. This is the filesystem having issues.
    • Another GFS2 filesystem holds shared data.
  • GFS2 fileystem is also shared via NFS (NOTE: Mixing Samba and NFS sharing of the same GFS2 filesystem is unsupported).
