Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • performance was ok on HP Gen7 (Smart Array P410) servers using xfs filesystem with application load
xfs_info
  data     =                       bsize=4096   blocks=89128960, imaxpct=25
           =                       sunit=0      swidth=0 blks
  • poor performance observed on HP Gen8 (Smart Array P420) servers with xfs filesystem and same application load
xfs_info
  data     =                       bsize=4096   blocks=89128960, imaxpct=25
           =                       sunit=64     swidth=192 blks
  • measured iostats show 10x increase in amount of data sent to storage for same application script:
     totals
      read kb   write kb   avgrq-sz  rkb/s  wkb/s
Gen7  120,942    860,063    18         602   4,300
Gen8  482,576 11,948,034   181       2,412  59,740

Environment
