OpenShift etcd x509 error: certificate is not valid for any names.

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Error: client: etcd cluster is unavailable or misconfigured; error #0: x509: certificate is not valid for any names, but wanted to match etcd1.example.com

  • After upgrading etcd to etcd-3.2.15-2 or greater I now receive x509 certificate errors running etcdctl commands.

Environment

  • OpenShift Enterprise Container Platform
  • etcd-3.2.15-2.el7.x86_64
