Early TCP retransmissions lower than the 200ms minimum RTO

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Early TCP retransmissions lower than the 200ms minimum RTO
  • Why are spurious TCP retransmissions seen quickly?
  • Our data send is sliced into 3 packages. We retransmit the third package immediately after about 11ms. Ot's far smaller than TCP_RTO_MIN ((unsigned)(HZ/5)) which is 200ms. Also this does not comply with TCP Fast Retransmit logic.
  • Why there is additional retransmission seen at Retransmission Time Out in RHEL?
  • What is Tail Loss Probe feature in RHEL?
  • Why does retransmission occur much earlier than RTO in RHEL sometimes?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) Layer 4 network transport
