Issue

This article clarifies the certification status of the HPE Superdome Flex with higher amounts of CPU and RAM than are listed as supported for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and 8 on the supported limits page.

Resolution

In order to achieve certification with configurations that exceed the supported CPU and memory amounts for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, qualifying systems are subjected to extended engineering testing in addition to the normal hardware certification tests.

The HPE Superdome Flex system with Intel Sky Lake processors has undergone this testing with 1792 logical processor cores and 24TB of RAM and has demonstrated that it can operate beyond the published limits without issue on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3, errata kernel 3.10.0-514.26.2.el7.x86_64, and also on newer errata kernels and update releases of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
