Kdump fails to start up with 'crashkernel=auto' on large RAM systems

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6

Issue

  • Kdump service fails to start up on RHEL6 Snapshot5 x86_64 on Express5800/R140a-4
  • kdump could not be used by default on x86_64 RHEL6 on R140a-4:
   Machine         : Express5800/140Rf-4
   CPU             : Genuine Intel(R) CPU @ 2.66GHz
   Memory          : 35GB
  • This problem does not occurred on the following server.
    Machine         : Express5800/R120b-2
    CPU             : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz
    Memory          : 10GB

Resolution

A fix for this issue has been included as of kernel-2.6.32-31.el6, please see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=580843 for additional details.
