Issue

  • A Kerberized SMB/CIFS share will not mount at boot.
  • /var/log/messages records error messages relating to CIFS
kernel: CIFS VFS: Send error in SessSetup = -126
kernel: CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -126

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Kerberos Principal saved to a Kerberos Keytab

Note:

  • Kerberos support for CIFS mounts is considered Tech Preview in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. See 5.8 Technical Notes for more information.
