Read only root filesystem on my RHEL system or RHV-H hypervisor. Now what?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

When booted from SAN instead of a local disk, RHEL and RHV-H can lose connectivity to the SAN and the root file system. When this happens, the root ("/") and other file systems in the boot LUN may go into a read-only state. The only recovery is a reboot. This may be undesirable for critical systems such as hypervisors hosting several virtual machines.
