Ceph - RGW multisite failed to fetch mdlog / datalog info

Environment

  • Red Hat Ceph Storage 2.x
  • Red Hat Ceph Storage 3.x

Issue

  • geo replicated log in /var/log/ceph/ is showing the following errors for RADOS GateWay Multisite configuration
2018-02-28 11:41:33.551446 7fdf70bfa700  0 meta sync: ERROR: failed to fetch mdlog info
2018-02-28 11:42:52.656678 7fdf6fbf8700  0 data sync: ERROR: failed to fetch datalog info
2018-02-28 11:44:10.736066 7fdf70bfa700  0 meta sync: ERROR: failed to fetch mdlog info
2018-02-28 11:44:59.890064 7fdf6fbf8700  0 data sync: ERROR: failed to fetch datalog info

Resolution

  • These errors are not problematic.
  • These are common to see in newer clusters because mdlog/datalog shards haven't been written to yet.

Root Cause

  • The RADOS objects for these shard haven't been created yet.
  • Once more data and metadata comes to all the shards, then the RADOS objects will be created and these errors will disappear from future logs.

Diagnostic Steps

  • From the rgw node navigate to the log directory found at /var/log/ceph/
