ActiveMQ reports a negative value for storage capacity

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

This problem has been noticed with Amazon EFS filesystems, but can probably be seen on other storage devices that report colossally high (exabyte) capacities.

At broker start-up, a message like this is seen in the broker log:

2018-02-19 15:19:31,964 | ERROR | AMQ-1-thread-1 | BrokerService | 141 - org.apache.activemq.activemq-osgi - 5.11.0.redhat-621186 | Store limit is -8796093022201 mb, whilst the max journal file size for the store is: 32 mb, the store will not accept any data when used.

The store limit is reported as a large, negative number.

Environment

  • JBoss A-MQ
    • 6.2.1
    • 6.3 R2 and earlier
  • KahaDB persistence
  • Very large (exabyte) storage
