Why are we unable to set certain module parameters in ixgbe driver?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • We are not able to set certain parameters for ixgbe driver.
  • Running:
# modprobe ixgbe IntMode=0,0 RSS=0,0 MQ=0,0 VMDQ=1,1
  • produces the following error:
FATAL: Error inserting ixgbe (/lib/modules/2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64/kernel/drivers/net/ixgbe/ixgbe.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
  • A grep for ixgbe in dmesg shows:
ixgbe: Unknown parameter `RSS'
  • Why are module parameters available in the Intel e1000 e1000e igb or ixgbe SourceForge driver not available in the RHEL driver?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Intel network interface with e1000 e1000e igb or ixgbe driver module
