A directory on the gluster filesystem can not be removed, message 'Directory not empty' appears

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • On a gluster volume a directory can not be removed, on the glusterfs mountpoint:
# rm -rf /GlusterNFS/directory
rm: cannot remove directory `/GlusterNFS/directory': Directory not empty
  • Removing the directory via NFS mount also fails:
# rm -rf /mnt/directory/
rm: cannot chdir from `/mnt/directory/' to `foobar': Invalid argument
  • On 2 of the storage systems, an old directory foobar could still be seen on the bricks:
# ls -l /bricks/br6t*/directory
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 user group 6 Mar 11 15:37 foobar
