While mounting a CIFS share ending with '$' using autofs throws an error "No such file or directory"

Issue

  • Unable to mount a CIFS share with share name ending with $ using autofs throws below error in /var/log/messages file :
  kernel: CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6
  • While accessing the CIFS share from the client, returns below:
#cd /mir
bash: cd: /mir: No such file or directory

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • CIFS using autofs
