Atomic registry Versus Openshift Standalone Registry

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • One can have confusion before implementing on-premise internal docker registry for storing images in an Openshift environment.
As Openshift can have three types of registries :

    • Integrated Registry
    • Stand-alone OCR
    • Private registry
  • Since Openshift does not support integration and issues of any private Docker registry. While taking a decision between Stand-alone and any private registry i.e. Atomic registry, It is important to understand between their use cases, pros and cons, etc.

  • Having Openshift subscription enabled, It is not recommended from the support perspective to make use of any upstream private registry. Perhaps, only upstream community would be able to resolve Atomic registry issues because it's an upstream project.

Environment

  • Openshift Container Platform
    • 3.x
