mkinitrd does not capture multipath bindings file if not in the default path

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • mkinitrd does not capture multipath bindings file if not in the default path (e.g. if the bindings file has been set to /etc/multipath/bindings in /etc/multipath.conf)
  • The server hangs at boot-up if the bindings file does not match what is picked up in initial boot process. The last message in the boot-up is:
Setting hostname server.example.com: [ OK ]
  • The server errors while trying to execute usleep
/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: line 961: /bin/usleep: cannot execute binary file
  • The server errors with garbage from the usleep binary
        /bin/usleep: line 1: ()*#@HJFEJFDS)(FUJLKJ : file not found
