Oracle failure "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" when using TNSNamesFile in JBoss EWS

Issue

  • The following URL is used to configure Oracle to connect to the database using the tnsnames.ora file

    jdbc:oracle:thin:TNSNamesFile=/config/my/path/tnsnames.ora;TNSServerName=MYTEST.DB1

  • Connection attempts fail with the following exception

    ... IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
