Why does the 'redhat-upgrade-tool' fail when trying to upgrade to RHEL 7.4?

Issue

  • I am trying to upgrade a RHEL 6 instance using a local ISO image of RHEL 7.4 ("redhat-upgrade-tool --iso /var/isos/rhel-server-7.4-x86_64-dvd.iso"), but after rebooting the upgrade fails.
  • The same process works successfully if I use a RHEL 7.3 ISO image.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
  • redhat-upgrade-tool version 0.7.49-1.el6 or earlier.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4.
