Unable to live-migrate a Windows guest from a RHEL6 host to a RHEL7 host

Issue

When the customer tries to live-migrate a Windows Server 2012 R2 guest from RHEL6.7 host to RHEL7.2 host, the following error occurs and the live migration always fails:

<timestamp> qemu-kvm: Features 0x301f99a7 unsupported. Allowed features: 0x719fffe3
    qemu: warning: error while loading state for instance 0x0 of device '0000:00:03.0/virtio-net'
    load of migration failed
    KVM: injection failed, MSI lost (Operation not permitted)

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 as source of live-migration
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 as destination of live-migration, minor releases <7.5
  • KVM live-migration
  • virtio-win-1.8.0-1.el6 (RHEL 6) and newer installed in the RHEL6 windows guest
