Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 - scaling_cur_freq File Is Missing in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 when Intel P-state driver is loaded

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • On a server with an Intel processor running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 configured for loading Intel P-state driver as CPU scaling driver, e.g. setting OS Control Mode for Power Regulator on HPE ProLiant Server, the most CPUfreq settings can be viewed in /sys/devices/system/cpu/[cpuid]/cpufreq/ however, scaling_cur_freq file cannot be located in the cpufreq folder.

  • When typing the following command to locate the file, a file not found message will be returned:

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/[cpuid]/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux(RHEL) 7.3
  • Intel-based server with intel_pstate driver loaded
