Kernel Panic with 3.10.0-514.rt56.215.el6rt.x86_64 and Intel E5 CPU

Issue

  • A Server crashes with a kernel panic when using the 3.10.0-514.rt56.215.el6rt.x86_64 kernel.
  • Since an update of the kernel to 3.10.0-514.rt56.215.el6rt.x86_64, the system does not boot anymore.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Realtime (RHEL-rt)
  • kernel-rt-3.10.0-514.rt56.215.el6rt.x86_64
  • Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2667 v3 @ 3.20GHz Type 0, Family 6, Model 63, Stepping 2 Microcode 0x36 to 0x37
  • Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2667 v4 @ 3.20GHz Type 0, Family 6, Model 79, Stepping 1 Microcode 0xb00001e onwards
  • probably other Intel E5 CPUs
