Apache httpd fails writing shm files

Issue

  • httpd fails to start with an error like the following:

    [slotmem_shm:debug] [pid 50829:tid 140598071125984] mod_slotmem_shm.c(339): AH02300: create /run/httpd/slotmem-shm-pbd51fa55.shm: 544/6
    [proxy_balancer:emerg] [pid 50829:tid 140598071125984] (2)No such file or directory: AH01179: balancer slotmem_create failed
    
    [auth_digest:error] [pid 15080] (2)No such file or directory: AH01762:
        Failed to create shared memory segment on file /run/httpd/authdigest_shm.15080
    
  • When starting multiple httpd instances, we see an error like the following for some instances:

    (17)File exists: AH01762: Failed to create shared memory segment on file $EWS_HOME/httpd/run/authdigest_shm.11230
    [auth_digest:error] [pid 11230:tid 139671784441824] (17)File exists: AH01760: failed to initialize shm - all nonce-count checking, one-time nonces, and MD5-sess algorithm disabled
    [:emerg] [pid 11230:tid 139671784441824] AH00020: Configuration Failed, exiting
