Can SkyDNS run as an OpenShift container instead of a service on the Master node?

Issue

  • Our DNS team is not comfortable to continue to use port 53 over the physical host addresses
  • According to the OpenShift prerequisites, it is necessary to open port 53 from nodes to masters for SkyDNS name resolving.
  • We would like to understand if OpenShift will support SKYDNS resolution in the overlay, such as SkyDNS runs as a pod on the master.

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
    • 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6
