Updated Chelsio firmware not applied by Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9
Environment
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9
Chelsio T4 or T5 card using the cxgb4 driver
Issue
Updated Chelsio firmware is not applied by Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9
Resolution
An error in the firmware file that shipped in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9 is preventing it from updating Chelsio T4 and T5 cards. Corrected firmware is intended to be included in future releases of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and it is possible to manually update the firmware before it becomes available as part of the operating system. Follow these steps to update the firmware if you believe an update is required:
- Confirm that you are using an older version of the firmware with the command 'ethtool -i
'. The output for the parameter "firmware-version" must show something older than 1.15.37.0. - Obtain the updated firmware from Chelsio's download center via the following link:
http://service.chelsio.com/store2/T5/Unified%20Wire%20(NIC,TOE,vNIC,iWARP,iSCSI,FCoE,WD-UDP)/Linux/ChelsioUwire-2.12.0.3/ChelsioUwire-2.12.0.3.tar.gz
The firmware file is contained within their Linux Unified Wire driver package at the following location:
~ChelsioUwire-2.12.0.3/src/network/firmware/t5fw-1.15.37.0.bin - Place the firmware .bin file under /lib/firmware/
- Run the command 'ethtool -f
' to update the firmware - Reboot the machine
