ImageMagick's "convert" produces a blank Postscript page size when "-page" option is used on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When using the command line option -page with convert on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 to produce a PostScript file, the resulting document may be blank page with no content visible.
  • The command convert may create Postscript files that cannot be printed or displayed.
  • The convert command on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 machine may create a non-printable postscript file while a proper printable file is created on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.8. The version of ImageMagick on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is 6.2.8.0-4.el5_1.1 while its 6.0.7.1-20.el4 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.8. When using the option -page with a geometry parameter instead of a media, the output file is correct. The documentation of the option -page is available at http://www.imagemagick.org/script/command-line-options.php#page. The command used for the conversion is :

        convert IM.png -page A4 IM.ps

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • ImageMagick-6.2.8.0-5 or earlier
