The documented Fabric8 patching procedure is insufficient for upgrading 6.2.1 R1/R2 containers to 6.2.1 R5,R6/R7/R9

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

The documented steps to patch a fabric container from 6.2.1 R1 or later, to a later roll-up patch (e.g., R6) are, in outline:

patch:add file:///path/to/R6.zip
version-create --parent 1.0 1.1
patch:fabric-install --username admin --password admin --upload --version 1.1 R6
patch:fabric-synchronize
container-upgrade 1.1 container1
container-upgrade 1.1 container2
...

With these steps alone, it won't be possible to carry out container-upgrade on SSH containers or child containers. Additionally, if you try to execute these commands from an SSH container, or any top-level container that does not have the jboss-fuse-full profile applied, the patch:add command won't even exist.

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Fuse
    • 6.2.1 R1, R2
    • Patch R5, R6, R7 or R9

It is possible that other patch releases of 6.2.1 are affected.
