How to update the router or registry's certificates so that they can authenticate to the OpenShift API?

Issue

The OpenShift router and/or docker-registry pods stopped working because they are unable to authenticate with the OpenShift API.
I deployed new internal certificates in my OpenShift environment and now my router and/or registry can't contact contact the API.

Environment

OpenShift Enterprise 3.1, 3.2
OpenShift Container Platform 3
OpenShift router and/or docker-registry configured to use certificate-based authentication
