How to boot a system without applying LVM filters

Issue

  • System unable to boot due to an incorrect lvm filter
  • System may present error dracut Warning: LVM rootvg/rootlv not found
  • Other possible errors include the following:
    • Couldn't find device with uuid [xxxx] Refusing activation of partial LV vg_root/root
    • /dev/mapper/vg-root-root: The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, or 7
    Optionally:
  • EMC Powerpath
  • Multipath
