CUPS no longer lists "SMB" or "Windows Printer" as an option for new print queues.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When adding a new printer using the CUPS Web UI (https://localhost:631/admin/), the "Windows Printer via SAMBA" option is missing.
  • When adding a printer using the Printer Configuration Utility (system-config-printer), the "Windows Printer via SAMBA" option is missing.
  • When I run lpinfo -v I just get the following:

    network http
    network https
    network ipps
    network lpd
    network ipp
    network socket

There should be a line that reads:

    network smb

    but it's not there.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.3
