Kickstart installation with static IP-addresses falls back to DHCP

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

When installing a system over kickstart with (unset) static network configuration, the installer does a DHCP request, times out and aborts the installation.

The kickstart contains the following:

network --device=eth0 --bootproto=static --noipv6

On the commandline while booting from the boot.iso:

boot: linux text noipv6 ks=http://satellite.example.com/kickstart/ks/label/rhel5-x86_64-ks

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4
  • Secured network where no DHCP is available
  • Installation over kickstart
