Interface freezes up if MTU size=9000 (any value over 6000)

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Can not set MTU=9000 for a network interface.
  • Setting MTU=1500 works OK.
  • Tested with a crossover cable between two identical boxes, not a switch issue.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.8
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • HP DL360
  • Broadcom Driver: tg3, version: 3.119,
  • Firmware-version: 5719-v1.24 NCSI v1.0.60.0
  • Bus-info: 0000:03:00.1
