Why is that particular Logical volume is not getting activated on reboot ?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • One of the logical volume is not getting activated on reboot. The workaround that is being used is to boot to /bin/bash (init=/bin/bash kernel parameter) and comment out the LV. After the system is booted, run 'lvchange -ay /dev//' to bring it back. There are other logical volumes within the same VG that are available on boot.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8
  • Different Disk controllers - LSI Logic/Paravirtual
