Netdump is only using eth0 interface

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4

Issue

Netdump is only using eth0 interface

Resolution

Add the DEV parameter to /etc/sysconfig/netdump

DEV=eth1

Root Cause

/etc/sysconfig/netdump with no DEV= automatically assumes eth0

Diagnostic Steps

  • The eth0 interface is down

    # service netdump start
    netdump: cannot traceroute 10.0.0.1 on interface eth0
    netdump: cannot arp 10.0.0.1 on eth0

    netdump server ssh key exchange [FAILED]

    # ifconfig eth0
