Unable to change users' passwords on sssd clients if password control is not enabled on the backend servers

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

When password control is not enabled on the backend server, you can not change a user passwords via a RHEL7.x sssd client

Regarding the previous RHEL5.x and 6.x releases, based on this KCS "Password change operation fails using SSSD against Oracle/Sun Directory Server fails & Tivoli Directory Server ", a workaround is proposed. This no longer is the valid approach in RHEL7 clients

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x
ODSEE / Tivoli Directory Server
sssd
