Support policy for AMC on VMware

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

Our customer runs RHEL servers on VMware ESXi. We would like to confirm their configuration is supported. The following page shows "Intel CPUs and Supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Versions". https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/intel

It says that "Please note that this applies only to bare metal environment, and not to virtual environment." We expect any virtual configuration does not receive restriction ("the combination of CPU and RHEL version") in the matrix, but we don't know. Anyway, they have two configurations, and we would like to know whether their system is supported.

  • The customer believes that the partner can escalate a RHEL issue on their system to Red Hat, is that correct?
  • The customer has an AMC subscription. If the customer encounters an issue caused by a RHEL bug, they believe that Red Hat can provide a fix based on the subscription for the customer. Is that correct?
  • When an issue occurs, the partner and Red Hat usually investigate whether the issue is caused by a RHEL bug. If it turns out to be a RHEL bug, we provide a solution like a workaround or a fix.
  • The customer and we as partner believe it is an usual process that does not depend on whether the system is bare metal or virtual environment. Is that correct? If there is any restriction specific to virtual environment, please let us know.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.5
  • VMware
  • AMC
