How do I assign fixed MAC addresses to KVM guests when using SR-IOV capable NICs?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

When assigning SR-IOV (Single Root I/O Virtualization) network device Virtual Functions (VFs) to a guest it's possible that, after rebooting the system, the card allocates different MAC addresses to these devices, leading to interface configuration problems within the guest, and non-functional networking.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2 or earlier
  • SR-IOV capable Network Interface Card
