Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • A user specified a dump device by <fs  type> <partition> option in /etc/kdump.conf as  follows:
    ext3 /dev/sda5

  • When using a server with a USB storage device  attached, the device name of HDD after booting 2nd kernel on kdump is  different from 1st kernel's name.
  • As a result, kdump does not work  as expected.

Environment

  • kexec-tools-1.102pre-77.el5 or any later version / kexec-tools-1.102pre-96.el5 or any later version
