Red Hat Satellite Proxy installation fails with "proxy_channel_not_found" error
Environment
- Red Hat Satellite Proxy 5.4 and higher
- Red Hat Satellite 5.4 and higher
Issue
-
Error when running
configure-proxy.shon new Red Hat Satellite Proxy server that is registered to a Satellite:There was a problem activating the RHN Proxy entitlement: ERROR: upon entitlement/activation attempt: unknown error - <Fault 1046: 'redstone.xmlrpc.XmlRpcFault: proxy_channel_not_found'> Proxy activation failed! Installation interrupted -
Error activating proxy entitlement :
There was a problem activating the Spacewalk Proxy entitlement: ERROR: upon entitlement/activation attempt: unknown error - <Fault 1046: 'redstone.xmlrpc.XmlRpcFault: proxy_channel_not_found'> Proxy activation failed! Installation interrupted. Spacewalk Proxy successfully deactivated.
Resolution
- If the Proxy channel is not added into the current active Satellite certificate, re-generate new certificate and activate it on the Satellite.
-
On the Satellite server, make sure that the appropriate Red Hat Satellite Proxy channel for the RHEL version used by the proxy server has been synced. For example, the channel for Proxy version 5.3 running on RHEL 5 64-bit can be synced with:
# satellite-sync -c redhat-rhn-proxy-5.3-server-x86_64-5 -
Make sure the system being activated as a Satellite Proxy server is subscribed to the Satellite Proxy channel's parent RHEL base channel and not a cloned channel. Example: RHEL 5 64 -bit channel.
# rhn-channel -l rhel-x86_64-server-5
Root Cause
- RH Proxy channel was not added into current active Satellite certificate.
- RH Proxy channel was not sync'd on RHN Satellite
- RH Proxy channel was sync'd for a RHEL version different from what the RHN Proxy was being installed on
Diagnostic Steps
- Check RH Proxy channel is added into current active Satellite certificate.
- Check RH proxy channel is in the Satellite certificate.
- Check RH proxy channel is synced
