Why do pods/containers have option "ndots=5" in resolv.conf on OpenShift?

Issue

  • Search domains from /etc/resolv.conf gets appended to DNS queries of any URL within Pods.
  • Multiple DNS queries for any URL from Pods lead to invalid DNS lookups, flooding DNS server.
  • Why did the ndots option sets with value 5 in the /etc/resolv.conf file of the Pods?
  • Is it possible to modify the ndots default value at Pod level or cluster level?
