Unable to update client using Satellite Server - tomcat5 fails to start

Issue

  • When trying to run up2date, the customer was receiving the following errors on the clients.

    [Fri Jan 29 13:33:55 2010] up2date A protocol error occurred: Internal Server Error , attempt #1,
[Fri Jan 29 13:34:00 2010] up2date A protocol error occurred: Internal Server Error , attempt #2,
[Fri Jan 29 13:34:05 2010] up2date A protocol error occurred: Internal Server Error , attempt #3,
[Fri Jan 29 13:34:10 2010] up2date A protocol error occurred: Internal Server Error , attempt #4,
[Fri Jan 29 13:34:15 2010] up2date A protocol error occurred: Internal Server Error , attempt #5,
[Fri Jan 29 13:34:15 2010] up2date Error communicating with server. The message was:
Internal Server Error

  • When trying to restart the rhn-satellite service, it outputs  the following error:

    Starting tomcat5:                                          [  FAILED  ]
