kdump fails to NFS target with permission denied error

Issue

  • Customer is attempting to configure kdump over NFS (v3) but receiving a permission error when rebuilding the kdump initrd:
mount: <serveripaddr>:/dump failed, reason given by server: Permission denied
/etc/kdump.conf: Bad NFS mount <serverhostname>:/dump
  • Getting illegal port messages like the following:
Nov 17 18:15:30 hostname mountd[pid#]: refused mount request from [ip/hostname.of.nfs.client] for /path/to/directory (/path/to/directory): illegal port ###

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5
  • kdump configured for NFS dump target
  • NFSv3
