When can MaxConnectionsInUseCount count be lesser than the conection minsize set in the connection pool?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • We are investigating various system parameters using JMX and I have come to notice that MaxConnectionsInUseCount (in MBean Java Class org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool) is always lower than MinSize attribute.

  • As of now MaxConnectionsInUseCount is 4 - 7 while our MinSize is set to 20.

  • We have similar settings in another server JBoss server (version 4.2.3) and it always keeps 20 connections open with database. (we have tracked it within the oracle as well)

  • Is this the right behaviour? (i.e. Jboss using/opening connections lower than the minsize setting on the connection pool)

  • Our settings for connection pool are

MinSize:20
MaxSize:100

Environment

  • Enterprise Application Platform (EAP)
    • 4.3
