IBM JDK No Longer Supported with SAP Business Applications (October 2012)
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Business Applications 4+
 - IBM JDK
 - SAP JVM

Issue
- Is IBM JDK still supported when using Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Business Applications?
 - What do I do now that IBM JDK is no longer supported?
 - How do I switch from IBM JDK to SAP JVM?

Resolution
Customers need to switch to SAP JVM using a tool provided by SAP. If customers do not switch and later open a support message with SAP, SAP will force them to switch before providing the support.
RHEL 4 update 5 and later is supported by SAP JVM. Please see SAP Note 1367498 - SAP JVM installation prerequisites for more information.
IBM JDK will be needed in certain cases: Some older SAP products cannot be installed using SAP JVM. To install those SAP products, customers can use the IBM 1.4.2 JDK available via the RHEL for SAP channel, but they have to switch to using the SAP JVM immediately after installation using the SAP JVM switch tool.
See the following SAP notes for more information:
- SAP Note 1495160 - SAP JVM as replacement for Partner JDKs 1.4.2
 - SAP Note 1665953 - SAP JVM Switch Tool Composite Note

Root Cause
Starting in October 2012, the SAP JVM will be the only supported JVM for all SAP products and releases. The SAP JVM is now supported for almost all SAP products and versions.
