Network device does not shut down with Usage count non-zero error message
Issue
- Reference count is remained in 1 on VLAN with the following message. The message appears repeatedly after running
service network restart.
kernel: unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth0.1234 to become free. Usage count = 1
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- VLAN configured.
- IPv6 enabled on top of the VLAN interface.
