Receiving `errno=Cannot allocate memory` and `File access error: cart BP9011 data file 350 read failed` against the `vtl` process within logs during high load

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • During heavier than normal load times, a third party process vtl fails to have memory allocated to its process and logs the following to /var/log/messages:
vtl[13203]: (14120) 3830: File access error: cart BP9011 data file 350 read failed
  • The following errors are also seen within the custom vtf_internal.log file that's associated with this third party vtl process:
vtl[13203]: (13509)[ERROR]: Sctp: SctpEngine::Send: sendmsg() failed - size=5760, charsSent=4294967295, errno=Cannot allocate memory
  • When the system reaches this condition, all the threads start to fail and the only way to get out of this condition is to reboot both nodes in the cluster.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6
  • Red Hat Cluster Suite
  • IBM ProtecTIER
